The Afrobarometer Round 6 survey in Uganda was conducted between May 6 - 28, 2015 in 95 of the 112 districts, and covered 300 villages randomly selected across the country in proportion to the latest 2014 national population and household census. Results indicate that trust in political parties has increased over the last decade. The survey shows that trust in the ruling party has increased from 56% in 2002 to 71% in 2015. Trust in the opposition political parties has increased from 16% in 2002 to 31% in 2015. It should also be noted that since the coming of the NRM/NRA government in 1986, multiparty politics was banned to foster national reconciliation and development, and encouraged all political parties to work together under the Movement System. Political parties existed, but could not field candidates for elective positions; candidature was based on individual merit. As political party membership dropped, a national referendum in 2000 voted to maintain the Movement system until the 2005 referendum reinstated multipartism politics. This survey shows that political party affiliation has increased from 29% in 2000 to 73# in 2015.
